Five critically hurt, one dead after CNMI plane crash

A woman on the Star Marianas plane that crashed early this morning at Saipan International Airport in the Northern Marianas was pronounced dead on arrival at the Commonwealth Health Center.

Four other passengers and the pilot, Jae Choi, are in critical conditions.

An official at Star Marianas Air, Shaun Christian, says the Piper Cherokee aircraft was carrying seven passengers: five Chinese one Filipino and a Korean.

The dead woman, who was Chinese, had severe burns and multiple fractures.

The plane was returning from Tinian when it crashed.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is expected to start later this week.
