Pacific youth taught how to improve ICT and create mobile applications

A Fiji-based policy think tank is hoping young people from around the Pacific can help to improve information communications technology or ICT in the region.

PasifikaNEXUS is hosting a series of workshops in Fiji to teach young people about internet governance and how to create mobile phone applications.

The head of the organisation, Salanieta Tamanikaiwaimaro says delegates have discovered the need to improve ICT policies in the Pacific.

"They began to realise that they could literally shape policy; that they did not have to be sitting in government office to directly influence policy; that they could actually make submissions. And so the second component will be predominantly on mobile application development training. For most of the Pacific Island countries, development of local content is very poor."

Salanieta Tamanikaiwaimaro says delegates have been taught how to submit feedback on existing ICT policies.
