American Samoa business group hopes to meet Bank of Hawaii officials

The American Samoa Chamber of Commerce executive board is hoping to meet this week with officials of the two private banks in the territory following Bank of Hawai'i's announcement last week it would shut its territorial operations early next year.

Closure of the Bank of Hawai'i operations would leave only ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank serving the territory.

The Honolulu based Bank of Hawai'i has been part of the territory's private sector community since 1969.

Chamber of Commerce chairman David Robinson says closure of the bank's operations is a great disappointment and perhaps a reflection and the consequences of the depressed state of the territory's economy.
