2:31 pm on 12 December 2012

Fiji is to help Nauru overcome a teacher shortage for next year with five senior teachers being recruited through the Fiji Volunteer Scheme.

The secretary for education, Dr Maria Gaiyabu, says they will replace seven expatriate teachers who have chosen not to renew their contracts.

The volunteers will get an allowance indexed to the teacher's average salary.

Under a memorandum of agreement with Fiji, both governments will split the volunteers' expenses.
