CNMI police challenged by double killing probe

2:11 pm on 12 December 2012

The police in the Northern Marianas are still trying to contact relatives of a six year old boy who has been orphaned after his parents were violently killed last week.

A special task force has been set up to investigate the case, which includes the Commonwealth Ports Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI and the CNMI Office of Homeland Security.

A police spokesperson, Jason Tarkong, says the police have so far been unable to identify a suspect, although a car taken from the scene of the crime has since been located.

He says the crime scene was violent and graphic, but the police are unable to release the cause of death until they make contact with relatives.

"The victims are of Chinese descent, the parents, obviously the six year old child is orphaned and there's no family members here on island. We have to go through what we believe is the Chinese consulate which is located on Los Angeles. We're waiting for proper notification of next of kin."
