A group of landowners in Solomon Islands has been urged to make careful use of the US$2 million they received from an oil palm company operating on their land.

The Solomon Star newspaper reports that Guadalcanal Plantation Palm Oil Limited paid out the dividend to the Guadalcanal plains landowners for lease of their land.

The company's general manager Roger Benzie has urged the five landowning groups who received the money to use the money in ways that benefit the whole community, to improve the standard of living on the plains.
