Plans are underway for an urban development project in Vanuatu to raise the standard of living and improve the tourism industry.
An agreement to improve roads and drainage systems was signed last week between the Asian Development Bank, the Government of Australia and Vanuatu.
Another important component of the project is the development of a sludge treatment centre.
Works on the project are set to begin at the end of 2013.
Regional Director of the Pacific Liaison Coordination Office with ADB Andrea Iffland says the project's aim is to look after the community:
"The quality of life refers specifically to having road infrastructure which helps people to easily navigate through town, that's one thing. That markets are no longer flooded, that people can bring their produce to the market and basically don't drown with heavy downpours."
