Rainbow Warrior agent returns to French Polynesia atoll

French Polynesian media report that one of the French agents behind the fatal 1984 Rainbow Warrior bombing in Auckland has returned for a holiday to the atoll of Hao.

Dominique Prieur was deported to Hao in 1986 following a deal between Wellington and Paris for her to serve her ten-year jail term for manslaughter on the atoll.

France reneged on the arrangement by returning her to France two years later and promoting her within the armed forces.

It's believed her visit to Hao is her first since the late 1980s.

Prieur had entered New Zealand on her bombing mission on a fake Swiss passport issued in the name of Sophie Turenge.
