Papua New Guinea's Trade Minister, Richard Maru, says he hopes the New Zealand government will provide scholarships to allow people in his Yangoru-Saussia electorate to do pilot training.

Mr Maru says he will discuss the details with the New Zealand government.

He says other scholarships will be made available to students wanting to take up nursing and medicine so that they can help improve medical services in the electorate.

The Post Courier newspaper reports that Mr Maru made the comments when announcing several major projects to be implemented in the district next year.

He says there will be two police posts set up in Nagam and Marinumbo respectively and Nagam High School will be upgraded to a secondary school next year.

Mr Maru says the Marinumbo community health post will also be converted to a modern hospital.
