Claiming forgery, Vanuatu lawyer wants compo over Phocea affair

2:18 pm on 27 December 2012

A Vanuatu lawyer, Les John Napuati, is suing the mega yacht Phocea, its owner Pascal Ahn Saken and the vessel's agent in Vanuatu for producing an allegedly forged document with his signature on it.

The yacht was detained last July and a permanent certificate of registry was seized by police when they searched the vessel.

The document had the signature of Mr Napuati but he claims when he was the commissioner of the Vanuatu Maritime Authority from 2003 to 2007, he never issued such a certificate to Phocea.

He claims the forged certificate has seriously affected his reputation as a lawyer because the document was published by the media.

In his case filed in the Supreme Court, Mr Napuati wants compensation of more than one million US dollars.

No date of the hearing has been fixed.
