Gale force winds and rain continue to batter Solomon Islands, as tropical cyclone Freda moves slowly across the country.

The category two cyclone has damaged homes and uprooted trees, with the southern islands of Rennell and Makira taking the worst battering.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological service says there are gale force winds of up to 100-kilometres an hour, with gusts of up to 148 kilometres an hour.

However, so far there are no reports of deaths or injuries.

The cyclone is expected to move off the country by late Sunday night or Monday morning.
