No need for flooding investigation - Samoa PM

Samoa's Prime Minister says there is no need for an investigation into flooding caused by cyclone Evan.

Local media reports many claim that the flooding along the Vaimauga river was the result of the Electric Power Corporation's Alaoa Dam being left opened.

People are calling for an investigation.

But Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says the damage isn't isolated to that area, and an investigation is unnecessary.

"The damage is in terms of the water volume and with the trees that came down with the water. The speed of the water flow was exceedingly fast, which is indicative of the quantity of the water. The dam that you refer to was just burst open."
