The president of Samoa's Hotel Association says the occupancy rate at hotels in Apia remains high and notes that one of Apia's main hotels is closed due to flooding.

The Aggie Greys hotel suffered extensive damage during Cyclone Evan, and has been forced to close for renovations, both inside and out.

Tuala Oli Ah Him says the hotel is likely to be closed for months, but other hotels offer high-end tourist accommodation.

"At the moment, the hotels that are not affected, we are trying to provide the service and the level of high standard that Aggie provided for some of its guests for the next couple of months, while Aggies tries to recover."

Tuala Oli Ah Him says ongoing heavy rain and flooding this month are not helping the clean-up effort for flood prone properties.
