Qarase case in Fiji Appeal Court next month

The Fiji Court of Appeal is to hear the case of the ousted prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, next month.

Last August, Qarase was jailed for a year after being convicted for corruption-related offences dating back to the 1990s.

The case against him was mounted in 2008.

According to Fiji media reports, his appeal against sentence and conviction has been set for the 25th of next month.

His lawyer claimed last October that there was a miscarriage of justice and lawyers were confused throughout his trial.

Qarase was ousted by the military in 2006, only months after being re-elected.
