Solomons opposition asked to appoint members to deal with PM

6:32 am on 22 January 2013

The group Forum Solomon Islands International is calling on the opposition leader to appoint new members of the Leadership Code Commission who can deal with an alleged misconduct case against the Prime Minister.

The Forum, which is a non-government organisation, has made a complaint to the Leadership Code Commission alleging the Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo of having an extramarital affair.

The Executive Officer of the Forum, Benjamin Afuga says the Commission cannot deal with the case until it has replaced two members whose terms in office expired in September.

"The Prime Minister who is one of the four people in the nominating committee cannot do that. So the Prime Minister has already stepped aside. We have written to opposition leader, who is the next to take the lead. We have written to him, asking him to take the lead to nominate two new commissioners. We have done that. Up until now we haven't heard anything."
