The Executive Director American Samoa Power Authority or ASPA says it is possible to reduce the utility's rates and fees in his first 100 days on the job.
Utu Abe Malae says management of ASPA is reviewing all aspects of its operations to see how costs can be reduced.
Reducing rates and getting the utilities company out of the fuel business are key priorities the governor has given the new board and Executive Director to carry out in their first 100 days.
Utu complimented the previous board and management for their decision to import fuel.
He says the agreement between ASPA and the supplier was very carefully crafted.
"We have to do this right. It must be legal. There must be savings to the customers. Pass on that reduction to the rates. And ASPA must remain solvent."
