Fiji's Metservice says tropical cyclone Garry is now on track for the northern Cook Islands.

The category two system did not make landfall in Samoa and American Samoa.

The duty forecaster at the Fiji metservice, Amit Singh, says the cyclone is currently east north east of Pago Pago and 205 nautical miles west south west of Nassau.

"It's heading towards the Cook Islands, but based on our forecast we dont expect to cross the land area, it will remain over the ocean, over the waters. It won't make landfall."

Amit Singh says Cyclone Garry has winds of up to 70 knots at its centre causing storm surges and heavy sea swells.
