China to assist Vanuatu police with equipment

China has promised to assist the Vanuatu police with equipment worth more than a million US dollars.

The undertaking was given in Port Vila by Major General Qian Lihua, who is a top official within China's defence ministry.

The assistance is expected to comprise uniforms, riot gear and vehicles, with Vanuatu wishing to get a fire truck and an ambulance.

The Chinese delegation also paid a visit to the base of the paramiitary Vanuatu Mobile Force.
