Tropical Cyclone alert in force for Aitutaki in the Cook Islands

7:01 pm on 24 January 2013

A Tropical Cyclone alert is in force for Aitutaki in the Cook Islands as Tropical Cyclone Garry continues to move east towards the Cooks group.

Earlier today, Garry edged away from American Samoa where the Emergency Operations Centre has now given the all clear for the territory and cancelled wind advisories.

However, high surf and small craft advisories are still in effect for the Manu'a group.

The Fiji Met Service says the Category Two cyclone continues to track eastwards at about 6 knots and is expected to bring damaging gale force winds over Aitutaki in the next 24 to 48 hours.
