Fiji's regime declares Australian priest prohibited immigrant

The Fiji interim government has declared an Australian priest, Father Kevin Barr, a prohibited immigrant and told him to leave Fiji this weekend.

According to Fiji media, he is alleged to have breached his work permit conditions.

Father Barr had been working in Fiji for more than 30 years and acquired a high-profile role in the Wage Council before he quit it last year.

When the interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, was in New York last week to assume the chairmanship of the UN's G77 plus China group, Father Barr disclosed communication from the Commodore.

The regime leader had reportedly used profanities in phone calls and text messages to express his displeasure about a letter to the editor Father Barr had sent to the Fiji Sun earlier this month.
