December visitor arrivals up 15 percent in CNMI

Visitor arrivals to the Northern Mariana Islands in December last year were 15 percent higher compared to December 2011.

Total visitor arrivals to the CNMI for calendar year 2012 was 17 percent higher than the previous year.

According to the Marianas Visitors Authority, arrivals to the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota registered 38 thousand visitors in December compared to 33 thousand in December 2011.

Total visitor arrivals in 2012 registered just over 400,269, exceeding the 400 thousand mark for the first time since 2006.

Arrivals from Japan reached 14 thousand visitors in December, six percent higher than December 2011 as the Japan market continues to stabilise.

Arrivals from Korea rose 13 percent to 13 thousand visitors.
