PNG police to begin investigations into Rabaul Queen sinking

The Papua New Guinea Police Force says an investigation is to commence into the sinking of the MV Rabaul Queen which resulted in the death of over 141 people a year ago.

A police statement says that from February 7th a total of 30 police criminal investigators will be deployed around the country to begin investigations into the sinking which occurred off Morobe.

Initial investigations will cover five provinces including Morobe, West New Britain, East New Britain and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

The centre of the investigations will be Lae.

The investigation comes five months since the report of the Commission of Inquiry into the disaster.
