Sport: Big announcements imminent for PNG rugby league

12:10 pm on 6 February 2013

The Papua New Guinea rugby league coach Adrian Lam says steady progress is being made in the lead-up to this year's World Cup in the UK.

The PNG team is in Australia preparing to play the South Sydney Rabbitohs this weekend.

Lam says after a long period of disruption things are looking positive.

"There's a couple of major developments happening here over the next two weeks, that will really secure some big funding towards the high performance unit for the national side. When and if that comes off we will know a little bit more about the direction we're going to take there but the draft look of it all is certainly a path we have never been down before which is fantastic because there will be funding there now for four or five camps before this World Cup one, including some international matches."
