The office of the Vanuatu Prime Minister, Sato Kilman, says the matter of his alleged public debt was cleared up before last October's general election.
The comment comes as the opposition MP, Willie Jimmy, plans to appeal a Supreme Court decision to strike out his petition on the eligibility of Mr Kilman to stand in the election.
The petition alleged the Prime Minister hadn't settled his debt while other candidates were made to settle their debts before being allowed to stand.
With the petition struck out on a technicality, Mr Jimmy says the core issue still hasn't been addressed.
But Mr Kilman's first political advisor, Richard Kaltongga, says there is no issue.
"All the Director-General of Lands said was that no, he (Kilman) had no debt, there was no land rent owing, and that's where they cleared him to allow him to stand. Mr Kilman went through the same process as every other candidate."
