The former chair of American Samoa's Shipyard Services Authority Board says in order for the shipyard to be a successful government operation the new board will have to continue making upgrades to the facilities in Satala.

The governor is now poised to announce a new board and the CEO position.

Carlos Sanchez, who has been at the helm of the shipyard since it was returned to be under the territorial government's control in June 2010, says they recently bought a $250,000 chain for the shipyard, but its not enough.

"We are a shipyard but not a top shipyard because we still don't have enough equipment but if we did have stocks of material, then we could take care of any boat coming."
