PNG businesses prepare for Pacific Games

The head of the 2015 Pacific Games says Papua New Guinea businesses anticipate a major boost, as it prepares to host the event.

On the fourth of July 2015, 4000 athletes and officials from 22 countries across the Pacific region will assemble in Port Moresby for the 15th Pacific Games.

Business Advantage PNG reports that work to prepare for the quadrennial games has begun, with a 362 million US dollar budget allocated, of which 96 million dollars has already been granted.

It says the bulk of the budget, about 335 million US dollars has been earmarked for essential infrastructure projects, including the major redevelopment of Sir John Guise Stadium, a new sports complex and 20 other redevelopment's.

The Pacific Games Chief Executive Officer Peter Stewart says he expects to spend a further 57 million on small expenses such as fleet vehicles, flights, staff, cleaning and waste services and fireworks.
