6:17 pm on 15 February 2013

The Palau government is investigating the disappearance of one of six Uighur (wee-ga) men resettled there after being released from the United States Guantanamo Bay military prison four years ago."

The Huffington Post reports the office of Palau's President Tommy Remengesau as saying Adel Noori has been missing since late last year.

The President's deputy chief of staff Rhinehart Silas says Mr Noori has no passport and it is unclear where he went.

He says the Palau government just learnt of his disappearance and is investigating.

Uighurs are Muslims from China's restive Xinjiang region.

The six were resettled in Palau in 2009 after a US judge ordered their release from Guantanamo, where they were imprisoned for about eight years for alleged ties to terrorist groups.

Local media reports in Palau have speculated that Mr Noori has made his way to Turkey to be with his family.
