Sport: Draw made for Hong Kong 7s

11:20 am on 22 February 2013

The draw has been made for next month's Hong Kong sevens, with Fiji to begin their title defence against Spain, Canada and the hosts.

Last year's Plate winners, Samoa, are in the same pool as England, Scotland and Portugal.

While series leaders New Zealand has been drawn alongside the USA, France and Kenya.

Also taking place alongside the World Series event will be the core team pre-qualifier, where 12 teams, including Tonga, will play for the right to advance as one of the top four teams from that competition to the London Sevens at Twickenham in May.

In London, those four teams, alongside Asian champions Hong Kong, will pair off against the bottom three placed teams on the World Series standings, with the top three teams earning core-team status on the 2013/14 World Series.

Tonga have been drawn alongside Tunisia, Chinese Taipei and a South American qualifier.
