Eight Indonesian soldiers are now reported to have died in two separate attacks yesterday in Papua.

A military spokesperson says about 20 armed assailants attacked a group of nine soldiers in Puncak, killing seven.

Two civilians are known to have been wounded in the attack.

About an hour earlier, gunmen stormed an army post in Tinggi Nambut, a village in neighboring Puncak Jaya district.

They fatally shot one soldier and injured another before fleeing into the jungle.
