Interpol to help with Fiji passport control

5:58 pm on 27 February 2013

The head of Interpol has committed to assist Fiji with a new passport control system.

The Secretary General, Ronald Noble, is on a two-day visit to Fiji as part of a Pacific tour.

He says he has agreed with the Commissioner of Police and the Minister for Defence that Interpol will put in place a state of the art passport control system, and organise a conference on integrity in sports.

Mr Noble says Interpol will also include Fijian police officers in training to fight cyber crime.

FBC News reports him as saying Fiji is the only country in the region to have an officer seconded to Interpol, and is a leader in the South Pacific.
