The owner of the Rabaul Queen, which sank off Papua New Guinea last year, continues to deny any responsibility for the disaster.
Police are now investigating the sinking, in which more than 140 people died, following a Commission of Inquiry report which said Captain Peter Sharp demonstrated that he had little or no respect for people.
Our correspondent in PNG, Oseah Philemon says Captain Sharp, in his first interview since the disaster, told the Post Courier he maintains the Rabaul Queen was safe.
"He's saying things like the inquiry report was written well before the first question was asked, and even making allegations that witnesses were bribed, to appear and give evidence before the inquiry. This is unbecoming of someone's who has lost a ship, and not only that but a ship that has also cost the lives of so many people."
Oseah Philemon says Captain Sharp's company has ships operating on the route again.
