French Polynesia's member of the French Senate, Richard Tuheiava, has hired Miss Tahiti as his assistant.
Hinarani de Longeaux, who is 22, said her modelling contact was about to expire and more work in the field was hard to come by.
She says he was also told she was too old.
Ms de Longeaux will be assistant parliamentary secretary.
According to Tahiti Nui TV she still hopes that an appeal of the outcome of the Miss France contest will allow her to enter the Miss Universe pageant.
