Sport: Samoa win first match at Softball World Champs

11:47 am on 1 March 2013

Samoa have opened the World Softball Championships in winning fashion, defeating Great Britain 2-0 in Auckland.

Coach Chris Kohlhase says getting off to a winning start is crucial to their playoff hopes.

He's targeted a minimum of four wins from their seven pool matches to help them reach the knockout stages.

The Tanifa, who finished fifth-equal in their only other World Champs appearance in 2004, play the United States in their second group match on Saturday afternoon.
