The Solomon Islands government has proposed setting up a diplomatic mission in New Zealand later this year.
The Solomon Islands Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Clay Forau, has confirmed the initiative during a visit to New Zealand.
The Solomon Islands government says a budget has been approved for the mission which would elevate and advance bilateral relations.
The government says it is vital for trade and investment advice, education and training opportunities as well as consular services.
Mr Forau has met New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully and he is continuing his visit this week, meeting other New Zealand ministers and officials in Wellington and Auckland.
Talks have included the drawing down of the Regional Assistance Mission or RAMSI.
