Heavy rain in Nadi not as bad as forecast, but Fiji flood threat remains

A heavy rain warning for the whole of Fiji remains in force, with a number of roads closed and the government advising people to be cautious.

Fiji Village reports localised flooding in low-lying areas in the Western Division.

The Chief Executive of the Nadi Town Council, Nemie Tagi, says the intensity of the rain has not been as bad as forecast, but risks remain.

"We have been following the weather forecast and the system will remain until the weekend and if it does get worse over the weekend then there might be some possibility of floods. Having said that, small streams connected to the major rivers have gotten high is the last one or two days, but then it drops down again when the rain cuts off."
