Fiji's Bainimarama says he has received draft constitution

Fiji's Prime Minister says he has received a copy of the draft constitution prepared by his government.

The draft constitution has been prepared by a team from the Attorney General's Office to replace the draft prepared by the Constitution Commission, which was dumped in January.

Fiji Village reports Commodore Frank Bainimarama as saying the draft has been ready for the past couple of weeks.

He says the government has been waiting for the Constituent Assembly to put it together.

But Commodore Bainimarama says the Constituent Assembly, which was due to sit more than two months ago, will only be appointed when all the issues in relation to the registration of proposed parties are completed.

He says some fraud has been highlighted in the registration of political parties.
