Sport: Fiji footballers hoping for Vanuatu revenge

Fiji kick off proceedings at the Oceania Under 20 football Championship in Lautoka on Thursday, hoping to snap a two match losing streak against Vanuatu.

The hosts played their Melanesian rivals twice at the last tournament in 2011, losing 2-0 on both occasions.

A positive result is even more important this time around as there is no knockout stage, with the winner to be determined via a round-robin system.

The technical director for the Fiji Football Association, Carlos Buzetti, has coached in both countries and says Vanuatu always provide a stern challenge.

"In the last three years playing with practically youth at the top level, and those players playing for the Olympians and playing for the senior squad, so they are prepared. They don't care about the result for two years and now this is an opportunity for them. I know they have very good players - I lived there for many years - I know they have a very good squad."
