Phocea set to leave Vanuatu after eight-month detention

The captain of the superyacht Phocea, Richard Malaise, says the boat is expected to leave Port Vila this afternoon - eight months after it was first detained amid a police probe.

The vessel has moved from the harbour to the wharf and according to the captain, it has been refuelled at a cost of more than 50,000 US dollars.

Reports say the customs office objected to the vessel being refuelled but gave no reason.

The yacht was cleared to leave last Friday in a ruling by the Supreme Court.

The yacht is reportedly owned by Vanuatu's honorary consul to Vietnam, Pascal Anh Quan Saken.
