Hefty increases in what have been dubbed sin taxes have been proposed in the Northern Marianas.
The tax increases, of up to 25 percent, would go on cigarettes, alcohol and soft drinks.
It has been proposed by Representative, Felicidad Ogumoro, who wants to combat the growing problem of obesity and non-communicable diseases, and provide much needed funding to Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation.
