Vanuatu parliament to debate no-confidence motion

3:21 pm on 21 March 2013

The Vanuatu parliament is expected to debate a motion of no confidence today.

The opposition's Edward Natapei wants to oust the Sato Kilman-led government on the basis of eight points.

Although the motion only has 16 backers, the opposition is confident of boosting its support, adding its concerns need to be aired in parliament.

Reports say the numbers have swung against Mr Kilman but he says in Vanuatu politics, even a minute is a long time.

In December, he defeated a motion of no-confidence by 27 votes to 23.
