The Vanuatu Parliament has been ordered by the Supreme Court to reconvene later this morning to elect a new prime minister.
This follows the resignation of Sato Kilman on Thursday before a vote of no confidence could be held.
The Speaker of Parliament, George Wells, then adjourned Parliament until Friday next week and put a caretaker administration in place.
The opposition contended this contravened standing orders and that a vote for a new leader should have happened immediately.
Last night the court agreed and directed MPs to meet this morning to elect a new prime minister.
The opposition has claimed the backing of up to 30 of the 52 MPs and its candidate for prime minister is Moana Carcasses Kalosil, the leader of the Greens' party.
