Fiji to resume eggplant exports to NZ

11:11 am on 27 March 2013

Fiji will resume eggplant exports to New Zealand from this week.

Fiji Times reports this was made possible after the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries reinstated the Fiji eggplant export pathway.

"New Zealand's Ministry of Primary Industries had put all eggplant exports from Fiji on temporary hold after live atherigona spp eggs were intercepted in a consignment of eggplants imported from Fiji in December last year."

In a statement, the head of the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji says the reinstatement of Fiji's eggplant export to New Zealand will be good for farmers and exporters, adding that he hopes they will take advantage of the opportunity and start exporting soon.
