Cuba has offered Fiji students scholarships to study medicine for the fourth consecutive year, beginning in September this year.

The study in Cuba is for seven years and requires an initial year to learn Spanish.

Fiji Public Service Commission's permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand, says those awarded the scholarships will be bonded to work in Fiji for a period once they have completed their studies.

The scholarships will cover tuition, accommodation, meals, a book allowance, a monthly allowance and medical and dental assistance, with the Fiji Government paying for airfares and giving a supplementary allowance.

Mr Chand says Cuba is renowned for its world class public health system and commitment to training of medical professionals and Fiji is grateful it has the opportunity to send students there.
