Solomon Islands teachers refuse to go back to work

5:54 pm on 3 April 2013

Teachers in Solomon Islands say they will not return to classes despite threats by the Ministry of Education.

The President of the National Teachers Association, or SINTA, Samson Faisi, says members are united in their cause to force the government to deal with their outstanding claims to re-level their salaries from last year.

He says SINTA will not call off the strike until the government delivers on its demands..

Students have lost more than a month of learning time as a result of strikes this year, and the SIBC is reporting parents are asking authorities to be lenient with entry requirements for national, secondary and community schools for next year.
