The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, says his government is considering a new amnesty to encourage people to surrender illegally held guns.
He was responding to a question from the Opposition Leader, Dr Derek Sikua on whether guns are still being hidden around the country.
Dr Sikua asks who would be responsible for collecting these given the imminent departure of the military arm of the Regional Assistance Mission.
Mr Lilo says it is possible guns are still being hidden and he has called on people to surrender them to the authorities.
He says his administration may consider giving a new amnesty to those still holding onto guns and other weapons illegally to return them for destruction.
