Vanuatu opposition for continued MSG role for Indonesia

Vanuatu's opposition leader says it is important Indonesia remains an observer of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

The Daily Post reports Ham Lini as saying while the new Vanuatu government has promised to push for Papua's inclusion as a member of the MSG, and for Indonesia to be excluded, this would hamper negotiations for eventual West Papuan independence.

Mr Lini is quoted as saying that having Indonesia as an observer would be helpful in reaching an understanding on Papua's goal of self-determination.
