A team conducting a review of the Pacific Islands Forum's Pacific Plan has been told on Niue that the general public needs to know more about it.

The Plan, the Forum's strategy for regional unity, is being reviewed by a team touring the Pacific.

In Niue, a former cabinet minister, Esther Pavihi, told the team the general public needs a greater understanding of the Pacific Plan.

She says the issue of regionalism versus national interests and the role of the Pacific Plan in addressing this remain unclear.

Several participants told the team that a mechanism is needed to ensure decisions made at the highest regional level on the Pacific Plan were measurable.

They also proposed that those making such decisions should be held to account for them.
