American Samoa business licences now available in 24 hours

7:25 pm on 15 April 2013

The American Samoa Department of Commerce has announced business licences can now be issued within a day.

Up until now the process for obtaining a licence has taken from three months to a year.

Applicants for new business licences or renewals are now only required to fill out a one page form and a licence will be issued to them within 24 hours.

The Director of the Department of Commerce, Keniseli Lafaele says for most applicants, the only additional document required other than a current ID will be evidence of certification for some professions such as lawyers and doctors.

Mr Lafaele says once the Department verifies the necessary information, the applicant will then be referred to Treasury to pay a licence fee and they can pick up their licence the next day.

He says the Treasury hopes in the near future to be able to issue electronic business licences at the time the fee is paid.
