Nauru MPs, who have been at loggerheads for months, are to meet today, and are expected to debate a bid by the President Sprent Dabwido to dissolve the parliament to allow an early election.
A new Speaker was elected yesterday, the former cabinet minister, Godfrey Thoma, winning by two votes from Baron Waqa.
Last week two parliamentary sittings were stymied by the lack of a quorum, and earlier this week proceedings were held up when no one put their name forward to be Speaker.
Parliament has not held a regular meeting since early February when the government lost its majority after two cabinet ministers resigned.
