American Samoa governor pledges accountability to the media

10:24 am on 26 April 2013

The American Samoa governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga has encouraged the news media to speak directly to his cabinet directors.

Lolo says his administration has a very open policy when it comes to the news media and the directors are the only ones in his administration who should be giving official comments.

Lolo says there have been reports in the media that misquote the Government's official position.

He says if there is a problem with obtaining comments for an official statement, media can contact his office right away.

Lolo's administration had its first cabinet meeting in February, with reporters invited to attend, in line with the its promise of transparency and accountability during last year's campaign.
